BIG problem with easy answer I hope!

OK so I have another issue. Without this site I think a rubber raft hole would be a hard patch job! Seriously though everything I need a answer to is here so I will try to stump you all again.

My new to me Bayliner Capri 1990 in year and 18' in length has holes for the motor that used to be on the boat. I want to add my 1987 85 hp Force motor to it, this is were the problem comes. The pic shows my hole pattern that is OK to a point. The top 2 holes need to be sealed up. The bottom 2 work for my motor. The down view of my transom has a measurement of 3 inches. Well you see my motor has the 2 screw type fasteners for the top and that measures 2.5 inches. I need 1/2 inch somewhere! I was thinking take the screw type fasteners out and running lag bolts into my transom???? Is this the correct fix, or the oak ball way? If it is the oak ball way what do I need to do that doesn't involve me buying a different motor OR motor mount for my motor...The top 2 hole do not line up with the screw type fasteners either so adding some heli coil will not work, unless I fill them and drilled new ones? HELP lol

Seal the top 2 holes with Marine Tex.
The bottom holes i would use stainless bolts,washers on the inside and lock nuts,with a good amount of 3M 4200.
The lag bolts are not a great idea.
Is the transom too thick to use the existing screw down clamps?

Yes, the transom is 3 inches and the screw down clamps are only 2.5 inches (openings)....

Would removing the screw in clamps give you another 1/2 inch?

Only thing i could think of would be drill out the transom where you need the lags to thread in,make the holes much larger with Marine tex,or a really strong epoxy then thread the lags into that.
Or look for a different engine bracket that is the 4 through bolt style but that may be really hard to find.

Another thought, An aluminum jack plate would be easy to make it work...

If I were to remove the screw clamps I would get about 2 3/4 inches. I could grind a bit of the mount to gain 1/8 inch. This will allow it to slide over the transom. So you are saying mark out where I would need these lags to go and drill that out over sized then run lags into that, after filling with a epoxy first of course. If that is a option couldn't I epoxy some sort of threaded sleeve in these new holes I would drill, then I could bolt it on? IDK what to do I do know the 4th is coming around the corner! lol
