Well i put it in thr water and ran the motor and it ran great and sonds good but it was alittle slow so i called the dealer back and they had someone come and take it for a ride and he said it was fine..I took it out and it ran good alittle slow..I called the dealer that the boat and motor was purchased from to look at it just to make sure it was ok and they tell me that there is oil in the air filter and that they have had a big problem with these motors burning and breaking pistons and probaly thats what wrong wiht my motor..And bad gas is the cause..The motor only has 80hours on it and run good but slow..Can anyone help..Thank u for your time..Mark

Sounds like a bunch of bs to me if it is a common problem how can it be bad gas.If motors are burning pistons its a design problem not bad gas.
I think Id have a chat with Evinrude!
You need to do a compression check.
Youre looking for at least 100 lbs per cylinder and within 10% cylinder to cylinder.
What rpm were you running at wide open?
Pontoons tend to be slow.Im guessing a 24 ft. pontoon with one person and 70hp.would do about
28 to 30 mph tops.

Msil if your motor is turning near 6000 while running and not overheating 15 -18 mph is about all your going to squeeze from a 24ft pontoon boat.If motor has no other issues besides speed It's probably just fine.that set-up is for slow cruise.

Anyone have any idea where the oil is coming from in the air box? I cant hardly imagine that the pistons or the head is messed up as smooth and nice as that motor runs any ideas? Thanks everyone for your time it is very much apreciated..Mark

not familiar with that motor but if there is vapor vent or extractor on crankcase it may very well be normal

If your turning 6grand at 15 mph you probably need to check your prop, if its damaged or has a SPUN HUB(I wanted that to be my login name). If your dealer says oil in the airfilter is the problem run if BREIFLY with out it and youll know for sure.

Just for reference I have a 20'Monark pontoon boat with a 50hp 4 stroke Mariner. The Monark weighs 1880lbs dry plus the motor and other gear. It runs 19.5 mph (per gps)at 5400 with one person aboard.

The oil in your air filter may be from over filling the crankcase.
