Bigfoot?

How do you know if your Mercury motor is a bigfoof or not? I was told, by posting the serial number, that this motor is a 1050525 Mercury 1985 50. Did Mercury make some that weren't bigfoots for a while? Maybe I should be asking-what makes a motor a bigfoot?

Yours is not a big foot as its a 4 cylinder and to early a year model...a bigfoots use the large 3 cylinder lower units...

Thanks Faztbullet, I never had a Mercury before we bought the two used boats this year and one has a mid 80s 25 horse and the pontoon boat has the one mentioned. I have been told that the 25XD is a good old motor and I'm hoping that this 50 horse is going to be too. Thanks again
