good morning boating fans,
last month my wife and i purchased an o4 alumacraft navigator 175 cs. with an o4 merc 90 2stroke.total weight is just shy of 2000lbs. the boat is rated for a 140hp. i was going to upgrade to atleast a 115. the dealer told me the merc 90 would be just fine, i was insistent about upgrading, but the dealer again said the 90 was enuf, though he wouldn't mind selling me the 115 for another $2000. well i took his advice and stayed with the 90. over the weekend my wife and i were out on the st lawrence river, i went WOT and the we maxed out at 45mph, i realized the dealer was right and 45 is pretty fast on the water. i am pleased with the package that was put together, and the dealer was honest with me. :) :)

Glad you are happy, nothing like buying a new boat and wishing you had something different. Im a power nut, and probably would have gone with the 140, but if you are happy, that is what matters. Congratulations on your new boat!. :D

I agree with you that 45 mph WOT is enough speed for most of us! I don't really like going faster than that unless the conditions are pretty ideal. But I wonder how it will perform with you, your wife and your friend on board along with your picnic stuff and other gear - pulling your friend's wife on skis? That's where the larger engine would make a difference - if you ever do that sort of stuff.

I'm with LubeDude. If a little hp works, then a lot has to work better. Also more efficiently, with the 140, you would be able to cruise a little faster than with the 90, and also, that one time you NEED to get from point A to point B in the fastest possible time, you will be cussing at your 90 and yourself for not getting a bigger motor. That said, I'm also happy that you are happy with your new boat. Keep using it.

Craig

Hi Team,
I had a dealer tell me once that I didnt really need a tandem trailer with the boat I was buying. I told him I didnt really need the boat either that it is just a hobby. I got his attention and a tandem. The dealer lives with us a short time but we live with our purchases a long time. Get what you want! But in your case sounds like all is ok and thats great. have fun GOD bless! :) LW
