Hi, i was just wondering about those launch bag things that you can get the are basicaly a bag with a pup inside, you chuck into the back of you boat and then you can fill them up to weigh the back of the boat down and push out a bigger wake. I was wondering if thats correct? Also would it be worth putting one of these on a 16ft fletcher with a 100hp outboard on the back to give it a slightly bigger wake? Or would i just not be able to get up to speed.

Cheers

Fat Sacks ;)

I would play with some 5 gallon pails of water (or 20 liter) what ever you Use over there  that you find free to see what happens

With and outboard you have to be carefull about adding weight as when you stop the wash may flood the stern on some boats

Re: Biggest wake

Would a bildge pump not work? Or are we talking about a serious amount of water here?

The ammount of water that would come in over the stern woud be more than most bilge pumps could handel at one time, especialy if you did it a few times.

I agree with the above advice on the wash water rolling over your transom and flooding your boat. If you do decide to do it start with a small amount of weight and see how it goes then add more if boat permits. Alot of people used to use plastic garbage cans with a good lid. Thats old school before all the fat sacs and ballast systems came along. Also if you do this remember to come to a stop SLOWLY this will help the wake dissapate and not want to roll over the transome as bad. Does your boat have power trim you can get alot out of just that once up trim up and try to lift the bow a bit it lowers the stern and produces a bigger wake at that speed. Good luck and be safe with whatever you do.
