I believe I have a rule-matic float switch (bilge pump) . it was working great last oct. (put it away for winter) and now the float sticks really bad , as I flip the switch manually it will stay on until I flip it a few times and it will go off. you think it's time for a new float ? or does it need some kind od lube or adjustment.?

I have never found a float switch that I really like, at least the ones in a shower bilge. Yours isn't in a shower bilge and with that, the problem is inside the switch. The ones like yours can not be lubed, just need to be replaced.

that's what I thought. just looking for a second opinion.

I'm thinking most float switches pretty much interchangeable.?

Yes they are, only difference is in the amount of current they can carry. Most are rated at least 15AMP, so pick which ever you like

You could buy a sensor type switch and never again have a stuck float switch. Just an idea..

Hi gm280, I picked up one of those and it to only work for about a year or two. Have you ever found one that is still working?

AllDodge, I actually make my own sensor switches and have never had even one problem with them in all the years using them. So I have never bought one and therefore don't know how long a factory type would last...

It likely has some debris in it.
Unless you keep after the Bilge and keep it clean the new switch will soon have the same problem.
Pull the switch, unscrew the cover and clean it up.
If that fixes it, you just saved the cost of a new switch and did no more work than replacing it.
If it still sticks, replace it.

What is "bilage"? I have never heard this term before.

The first float switch I had was one i made from the mercury tube in a old home thermostat and a cork and a coat hanger. Used it for 10 years Now i don't have a bilge so don't need a pump except to fill the live well.

Have you heard of a cube rat.

No.

Also never heard of a GAPS PLUCK, either.
