bildge PUMP??

I know this is prob in the wrong thread but you guys have helped me out a ton as i am new to all this boat stuff. My question is what is the best way to mount the bildge pump the the bottom of the bildge?? THANKS

most boats have a wood area glassed to the hull ,pump mounts there
you can glass in a mounting pad,and mount the pump
using a piece of SS or Al make a bracket mounted to the bottom of the pump
and the top screwed into something.
not so much the best way as to the best area. pump should be at the lowest part of the hull,but if thats not feasible also mount a small pump at the transom, wired together.
when you first apply power and the bow tips up, turn your pumps on, the small one will remove the water before it`s get into the flywheel area.

Its a 1987 chris craft 210 LTD. The old pump that was in there was just mounted to the botttom of the hull. There is no stand or anthing like that. I am just wondering what is the best way to mount it to the bottom of the hull?

I would just mount the pump on a piece of aluminum and let it rest in the bilge unless there is a problem with it sliding around, then you could use a small dab of adhesive like silicon to hold it in place. This way there are no holes to drill.

Most pumps have a base that the pump fits into and clips in place. You can caulk in place or use a dab of 5200 or the like to stick it to the hull. I know that is the thickest spot in the hull, but still I would use caution screwing something directly into the hull fiberglass. I doubt it will work very well if needed if it is laying on its side. You should also have a float of sorts to automatically start the pump when water reaches a certain level. There are manu choices out there.

Bilge pumps are a critical piece of equipment on the boat. They should be securely mounted. If you don't have a built in mounting pad, then a simple and effective method is to get a piece of pressure treated plywood and epoxy it to the hull at the lowest location possible. Sand the hull bottom, and the common epoxy in the twin tube dispenser from the hardware store will work fine. Just don't use the 5 minute or quick set epoxy. Its not very strong. Then screw the pump to the wood.

That is pretty much the same info you will find in any pump installation instructions.
