Where is the bilge pump located. . . in the engine compartment? Is it easily visible?

Re: bilge pump 1988 sea ray 268

Also, it's going to rain hard tonight and I don't know how to keep my boat from sinking. It's in a slip, in the water. There is no water in the engine compartment. As you can tell, I'm very new to boating and appreciate your help tremendously.

the pump should be just in front of the engine, when you open the engine cover/deck, look straight down.
there should be switches on the port/left side of the "steering wheel"
"I think" the one marked bilge pump will only work if the batteries are switched to the on position, you turn it on and off manually, dont leave it on after the waters pumped out, the bilge pump may also have a foot switch that comes on when the water level comes up to engage it.
the may also be a seperate step pump located in the aft cabin, same thing with the switch, look to see if the waters being pumped out the turn it off, dont burn it out.
also the searays should be self bailing to a point (drains around the floor area directly to the outside of the hull) as long as they are not plugged or cracked.

The bilge pump in the engine comparment might be hard to see. But it should be just in front of the motor, or directly under it.

Is your boat covered? While not all boat covers are waterproof, they do keep a lot of the water out. You might be surprised at how little water will actually get in the boat.

One point to bring up, your Sea Ray is not self bailing at all. Your cockpit has NO overboard drains. Any water that falls on the cockpit floor, will make its way into your bilge.
You do have a second "bilge" pump under the steps leading down into your cabin, but that is mostly just there to pump the water from your shower into the bilge. It should not pump any water overboard.

If his 268 is a sundancer, weekender or srv, there should be drains at the rear corners of the engine cover trough, as well as the battery covers, bottom of stairs and any hatch that access bilge point, troughs.
while the step down pump thats located under the backportion of the pull out bed, (if this is a sundancer), is primarly there for the shower or you get flooded out, it should pump out on the port side directly beside the stairs.
ensure you keep the drains cleaned out as they can fill up with sand/ dirt/ pet hair etc
inspect for cracks in lines as they are just plastic.
