Bilge Pump and a Marine Charger?

I have just recently converted a 1989 Four Winns 160 Freedom with OMC 130hp 3.0 for use in saltwater. Because the boat will be on a mooring I have decided that a bilge pump with a float switch is the best option to keep it from taking on enough water to make it list/sink. After reading some posts about these types of switches getting "stuck" in the on position because of debris in the bilge I am looking for a redundant way to protect my battery.

Would installing a Marine Battery charger make sense? Or should I put a second automatic bilge pump in?

Well, if what you're concerned about is draining the battery because of the bilge pump's float getting stuck, adding a second pump won't have any effect on that unless it was on a seperate battery.

A battery charger makes a lot of sense.

keeping your bilge clean is the best thing you can do.

If you have shore power go with a battery charger. I have a Raritan Marine Battery Rectifier but the only problem is is that u have to watch it constantly since it doesn't stop charging when the battery's are done. I started using a trickle charger like the Battery Tender and that works great.
