Hi, I recently took ownership of a 14' speedboat, will I need to fit nav lights? And is it worth fitting a bilge pump?

Thanks.

Always good to have a backup plan so I would install a bilge pump, you may never need but it will be there if you do.

As to nav lights, I am not up on my Scottish marine law so get with someone that is and see if you need them, if you ever think you will be out after dark instal them, again they will be there if you need them.

I will say few thing nicer than a sunset on the water.

You can never go wrong with putting in a bilge pump. it's sort of like driving around without a spare tire. Never may have to use it but sure is great to have when ya need it. And as far a nav lights. Don't need them unless you are on the water after sunset.

The bilge pump is a really nice device to have. Lets you leave the boat out on the water for a few days and not worry about sinking due to slow leaks or rain. Generally speaking, bilge pumps are not there to keep the boat from sinking when it strikes something and gets a big hole. They are there to keep water from collecting from the rain and slow leaks.

If you take the boat to the ramp and bring it home every time you use it, there is not much need for a bilge pump.

OK, Bilge pumps on ebay seem to be about ?12 - ?15 so I think I will get one, but don't think I'll bother with Nav lights, I'm certainly not planning on being out after dark!
