Bilge pump questions

I just got a 1994 seadoo speedster and the bilge was bad, so i installed a new one, then realized i was not sure if it should have been an automatic type or not. Should the pump be automatic. also where the hose goes twords the engine compartment there is no seal around that hose, should there be a seal there?

Automatics are preferred but if you are not keeping the boat in a wet slip it is not a necessity. (if it will be kept in the water it IS a necessity) Assuming you have a switch at the helm that you can turn it on with?

not sure what the hose is penetrating that you are concerned about the sealing....maybe a pic or a better description (or maybe its just me)
