I've got a 29' cruisers that has two bilge pumps. One is in the engine compartment, and works just fine. The second is at the after end of the cabin, and is dead. I'd like to replace the dead one. Anybody have any experience doing so? Any pumps I should look for or others I should avoid? Thanks!

Don't get the 'automatic' kind . . . get the kind that have a separate float switch. You could just get one same/similar to what was there.

I learned the hard way with the 'automatic' type of bilge pumps. They cycle every 2 minutes and then keep going if the sense water being pumped. That quick cycling tends to drain the batteries over a month or so. Not an issue, if you use the boat frequently, but often that is not the case.

I'm away from the boat for a month at a time on a regular basis (unfortunately) so that's good to know, thank you.

I've heard that "Rule" pumps are good. But haven't ever tried them myself I'm just passing on info from others...

I use this one from Rule. It has a built in float switch. It is not an automatic it's auto sensing.
