Bilge pump wiring

OK I have three wires coming out of the bilge pump that somebody cut and I cannot find any matching cable of wires in the harness. SO I am hoping someone can tell me how to hook up the three wires. One is green, another white and one black. I am already thinking that the black is ground so what about the other two?

This boat was trashed before I bought it for $400 so I am having to completely rewire and replace everything from the motor to the dash board.

Re: Bilge pump wiring

Three wires indicates this is a pump with a built in float switch. What that means is when you are away from the boat, if it rained or the boat took on water the pump would start automatically and run until the float switch shut off the pump or the battery went dead -- which ever event occurs first. So:

Ground goes to the negative battery terminal.
The float switch wire can be wired in either of two ways: a) to the AUTO position on a three positiion ON-OFF-ON bilge pump switch, or B) directly to the positive battery terminal.
The third wire goes to the bilge pump switch -- which may be a simple ON-OFF variety or the three position mentiioned above. UP would be MANUAL (turns the pump on and it will run until you shut if off or set to AUTO). OFF is obviously off. Down is AUTO.

As for colors, can't help you since we don't know what pump you have. Guess I need to create a diagram for this.
