bilge pump wiring

What happens if you do not use a 3 way switch for the bilge pump and float. My boat was wired with a float and pump but no switch. If the float was closed and the manual switch was on both would be providing juice to the pump at the same time. I've seen this wired this way before and it worked but not exactly kosher.

What will happen is, that the pump will be able to run either by the float or by the switch. No problems - just gives you an option to switch it on when you like, or if the float fails.<br /><br />You only should make sure that nothing else is powered by the switch picking up power from the switch's terminal as the float will lead power back to the switch.
