Can anyone tell me what the letters BIM stand for?

I've seen "Breakerless Ignition Module" or "Bosch Ignition Module".....

They seem to have a bad reputation; does anyone know who the original manufacturer was/is ?

I find it annoying when a company (maybe Bosch in this case????) manufacturers something for years and profits from it...then watches as their products prematurely fail and do nothing about it. BIM coils are largely NLA...and the folks who manage to find NOS are dismayed to find that those too have failed just by sitting on the shelf.

I realize that CDI and perhaps others are selling conversions; It's nice of them to do that; but my gripe here is with the original manufacturer; whoever that might be.

Anyone know?
