bimini dye

I recently purchased a westland bimini sharkskin top from Iboats.com.

The problem I have is that when I lay it down to travel down the road, it actually lays on the area the the engine cover is. Even in dry times, the dye from the boot rubs off onto the vilyn. It takes Go-gone to get rid of the dye.

I have tried to wash the boot and soak it in water, did not help, dye still rubs off. How can I stop the dye transfer??

Any help here would be appreciated.

try some canvas waterproofing on it.
