Our 18' pontoon is an '03 and the bimini top was getting ratty. We bought a 10'x20' garden net. (theyr'e sold by shade; ours was 70 percent) Sewing to net is futile, so no sleeves or zippers. Got 1/2" x 8' aluminum strips from lowes. (find them where they sell square tubing and "c" channel) We sanded the edges and corners smooth and drilled holes about every 8", The net was sandwiched between the top of the bows and the 1/2" strips, using self tapping screws. about a foot of screen was hanging over the sides and was screwed to the sides of the bows. We left enough screen hanging off the aft bow to hang down to just in front of the sun deck. There was plenty of screen to reach the front of the playpen; so we fastened some rings to the forward corners of the fence and some cups on the deck to hold 2 aluminum poles. Small rings on the top of the poles hold the forward edge of the net with small bungie cords; and the poles are removable. We fixed 3 1/2" nylon straps to the forward and aft bows to roll up and tie the extra netting. It's actually cooler because the heat doesn't build up under the top. Since the wind blows right through it; at anchor, we don't get the sail affect, and when underway it doesn't act like a drag chute to slow down our old "school zone boat".;)

Re: Bimini idea

I have read the sticky on pictures a dozen times and still have no idea what it's talking about. (not computer literate) Maybe one of my kids or grandkids can figure it out for me.

Re: Bimini idea

great minds think alike!

We used some of the same solar shade material on our EZ-UP shelter, at the lake Ive seen countless broken ezups....the wind tears em apart out there.. so I madea a custom shade for our ez up to replace the solid top (for windy days) works great! ditto on the side shade...used some 1x2 and solar shade material...couple bungees and it attaches to the legs for a shade (wind blows right through)
