I have a 12' 2" inflatable and am interested in a top for the Summer. Most seem to sit really high above the boat in pictures and it seems to me that if the sun is not directly overhead, you aren't really going to get any shade. What has been your experience with tops and are there any you would recommend based on shade coverage?

A must have specially during hot summer, the shade will depend on it's size, a good one covers about 50/60 % of sib's lenght. You need to keep the rest open for sunbathing, fishing, having some beers at full sun, sun drying after a swim. Boatstogo used to sell them. Usualyl are 1.70 mt height measured from deck upwards, folds neatly behind the engine. Something like this :

Re: bimini tops

I used my 12ft boat for half of the summer without shade. Never again. It was some kind of hot. I waited for anybody to get tops in and never got one. I even attached a beach umbrella to the transom so I could fish and not get cooked. The umbrella dosent work very well when the boat is in motion. If I cant find one over the winter I will make my own. A top is a must have
