1989 Lowe Pontoon and 40 HP Johnson, boat has original top mount binnacle. The shifter moves fine, functions fine, but the stop or detent for neutral is very slight, it can be hard at times to get it just right so the starter will engage. Can these be adjusted and lubriated?

Re: Binnacle Adjustment

That's a common problem. Normally the neutral safety switch can be moved somewhat simply by loosening the attaching screws and applying a little prressure to move it towards the operating cam which corrects the problem.

There should be an adjustment screw on the side of the box to increase neutral lock tension. It may be under a little plug.
