I have a binnicle control box and just recently put new cables on it. I have read the threads on how to adjust them but I did not see anything on how tell which one hooks up to the shifter and which one hooks up to the throttle. I would also like to know how the push button Idle works. I cant seem to figure it out. any ideas?
Thanks,
Cionjay

Re: Binnacle Control Box Question

Determining which cable is which is as simple as having someone move the lever forward while you watch the cables. The first one to move is the shift cable. The other one is the throttle. Logically, the engine must go into gear first before throttle is applied.

Push button idle setups allow performing the same function as the fast idle lever on a side mount control box. Push the button in and move the lever forward to fast idle the engine. Pushing the button disengages the shift linkage. To return to normal, pull the lever back to neutral, the button pops out and you can now drive normally.

Re: Binnacle Control Box Question

Thanks, for the info. I checked the cables and they are hooked up correct. I was wondering about the fast idle button because the prop will not engage. if I have the motor off with the cables off I can engage it and the prop will not spin. with that said, I believe that there must be somthing wrong with the fast idle button. How can I test this button or bypass this. The owners manual that I purchased does not mention these issues. ( I have a single binnacle control with ignition built in.) Thanks, again

Re: Binnacle Control Box Question

sorry about the last post. I took the binnacle control apart. The button is working properly. When I engage the shifter with the motor off it will engage the prop and i cant spin it. when I crank the engine on and put it in gear the prop will not spin. I am scratching my head on this one.
