Well, I've gone and done it. I just purchased my second boat. I picked up a 1975 Chrysler Charger with a Volvo Penta 170 horse 6cyl and the 270T outdrive. I paid an astonishing $400 for it. And now begins the long road of restoration. It hasn't been run in about 10 years. So there will be some fuel and carb clean up to do. There is also some significant, but not structural fiberglass repair to be done on the top back of the boat. Most everything appears to be in working condition. Needs some repair to the tilt/trim unit, won't go back up, but it goes down fine. Probably needs a relay. Seloc repair manual is already ordered. Thankfully I have a background in automotive repair, so most everything, except the fiberglass repair, will be relatively easy. Thankfully, the most important part, the transom, is quite solid. I'll try to post some pics of the project as I go.

Thanks to all of those who helped me with my other boat, 1971 Crestliner w/ Johnson 50hp. And thanks in advance for all the help that I'm sure many of you will give to me as I work on this new project.

Thanks!

Hmmmmmm.... I have my own opinion of those Seloc manuals, they run from useless as tits on a boar hog to Annie, get your gun.

I ran into the same with my tilt/trim, try adding oil to the unit before doing the try-a-part thing.

Have you read the awakening an old outboard thread in FAQ?... most of it will pertain to the I/O too.

Good luck,

Have fun,

Don't panhandle on my street corner to pay for all of this 8)

Custombycrunch - Don't you remember that guy on the street corner you gave a couple bucks to last week? 8) Thankfully, I'll be able to do all of the labor myself, so that'll save me a lot of money right there. Thankfully, other than alot of TLC, the boat doesn't need a whole lot.

Thanks for the well wishes both of you. Its the biggest project I've attempted since my old truck that I built up. And I've got the will, maybe the stupidity for this one. d:)

Thanks again!
