Before I went on deployment I traded for a 1998 Bayliner 2050LS and replaced the floor/stringers on the aft half. I ran out of time before deployment so I finished her a little to quickly and she ended up looking good not great like I would have liked but its functional and performs great.

Now im about to return home i found this, and REALLY want another project and take my time3G63Kc3F15Kb5X25M1cc5640574b34c8d102c.jpg3K93M73o65N15L25M2cc5ab1c9a0a8ffb1782.jpg3E43G33Nd5Ib5Ff5H1d1i10c1679c2f1c1d21.jpg3Kd3G13l45Gb5Ea5M6d1i772d1296b0251ef8.jpg

sorry didnt realized the pics didnt enlarge anymore than this

Shoot part of the hard part is out of the way. Can anyone give me ideas to why this wouldnt be a decent project.

They are asking $1800 boat/trailer (no engine/outdrive)

It should be a very nice boat when restored if you're going to have the time and money to do it.

^^^ yea, what Bond-o said . . .

The Ad says no motor or outdrive, so you will have to find something to go in it. Probably a 5.7 Mercruiser w/ Alpha 1 would be OK. I like the combo exhaust though. If you had easy access to an engine & outdrive, it would be a no brainer (for me).

I'm guessing the guy sold that stuff to re-coop some of his 'loss' (a.k.a. investment) in the boat.

If you had to buy the complete drive system, then it is not worth it . . . you could probably get an operational boat for similar $$$$.. Not really a nail-biter IMHO . . .

that’s the only thing I can think of stopping me, but with patience I could find a combo that would work. As long as wife doesn’t mind sharing the garage time is on my side. Plus i could always down grade to a alpha drive

$1800 asking probably take $1200 and the trailer is probably worth $1000. If it had the engine and bravo drive it would probably sell for a lot more than. I would buy used outdrive and motor i can rebuild, i wouldnt buy new for a restore project of this age of a boat. Plus a boat for that money $1200-1800 would buy more like a 16-18ft maybe v6 I/O.

Find a donor boat with rotted out guts and a good drive train and perform a heart transplant.

Re: Bitting my nails deciding to take on this project

I don't know that the trailer is worth $1000, and it's likely that a rebuildable outdrive & motor won't be cheap.

I kind of get the impression from the CL ad that this was a donor boat, and the seller has the missing parts in his 'exactly the same' 1996 CCR, that he'll give you pix of for reference.....

But if you want this CCR, then make an offer that covers the trailer's sellable 'value/worth' ~ $500 +/- a couple hundred... And stay well below $1000. You'll need every dollar you can save on the boat purchase for a new drive train & it's parts & pieces.....

The CCR & trailer are fairly large, so it may be taking up valuable space in the seller's garage/yard...

Just my $0.015................

Re: Bitting my nails deciding to take on this project

well i shot the guy a low ball offer and if he bites then i will go for it. But if not the wife reminded me of other project to work on but those dont involve engines so not as exciting to me..... :(

Thank you all for your input. If he accepts my low ball offer then i will have a new thread to talk about but i thought if i could get the boat for 1200 or less it was a better deal but i guess not but thats why i asked needed other peoples input to help see all angles of the issue.
