im thinking about painting the top portion of my boat(15.5' mirrocraft closed bow aluminum)black. this would be the closed bow, about 5 inches down the sides of the boat and the splashwell. you dont see many black boats and was thinking about heat and reflective issues. anyone have a black boat or any thoughts on this? thanks, appreciate all coments.

Well, you could probably cook your lunch on it. :)

Black would probably be a brutally hot color after an afternoon in the sun. Water spots would probably be an issue too.

Looks great, but really does get too hot to touch. The top of the cowling on my merc engine gets too hot to touch after sitting in the sun for a short period of time. It is great for drying wet towels.

My partner has a 23' Checkmate that's black on top and sides with red and white stripes. It does get hot but it sure looks pretty.

No doubt would look great but you'd wear yourself out chamois-ing the water spots off to keep it looking good. Plus, I pity the first person to touch it with their bare skin in the middle of the day.
ya gotta love black though. I've had about 8 black cars, each time saying they would be my last black one.

Not very good for the boat either. Drastic heat changes will put a lot of stress on the surface. Not good if there is any joints.

Black=HOT. I have a medium grey interior and its fairly hot but no hotter than the darker blue Bayliner used. Heck even the crome handle in the floor was hot as blazes! It was 102 degrees at the lake yesterday! I actually take my shoes off when launching the boat then put them on after getting it docked. I did not put the shoes on right away and stepped on then quickly off that handle ouch!

As nice as black looks it does show up spots!
