Re: black box

It's all a state of mind. I have used a Scotty Black Box since they came out. I used to think it made a difference, don't know for sure.
There is just not the # of salmon around that there were a few years ago. The commercial trollers swear by them.

I think it helps.

But its just a tool, its not going to get you fish anytime or all the time.

I like it because it stabilizes and controls the voltage on the downrigger cable.

I thought about getting one for trolling but found out that I'm well within tollerance. It's only nessessary if you are throwing out above or beyond these tollerances.

Re: black box

Just because you are within tolerances does not mean it will not make a difference. I have use one for awhile and can say they do make a difference. It does depend on the species, but here on the west coast for salmon I swear by them. If the fishing is hot any one can catch fish. I find the box most useful in slower times when you have to work for fish. A change in voltage can get a fish interested in something that otherewise would have gone by unnoticed.

I also know a couple of commecial trollers in Alaska and Canada and one charter troller in Canada that swear by the black box.

just my $.02

baddawg
