Black marks

I have become the proud owner of a 1989 Sea Ray 180 bow rider. The problem I am having has to do with black marks.
The orginal owner kept this boat on a shore station most of it life. (245 orginal hours). I dont have a shore station and tow it from lake to lake. Here is my problem. The trailer being used is also a 1989 ez loader with 16 rollers. The trailer sat out most of its life and I think what is happing is deteration of the rubber wheels. when I load on trailer I get roller marks on the bottom of the white colored boat. I just got done wheeling out and polishing the top and bottom and these leave marks. Any Ideas? has any one else had this? will they demish in leaving marks with more use?

You are probably correct about the rollers being in the weather that many years. You could try cleaning the rollers.??
other than that, replacing them. They are probably not plyable any more. My .02

i'd definitely get new rollers, being deteriorated enough to leave marks they become easily broken and could begin to wear very quickly and crack off. you wouldn't want a big gouge in the hull would you?

another thought if the trailer has sat that long, do the rollers even roll? if they are frozen up that could explain black marks as well. either rotten or frozen i'd replace with poly they'll outlast the boat

They do all roll. I have a couple that do show cracks in a couple of the rollers. Can some one tell me a good place to purchase new rollers?

I had a older trailer that had black rollers and I used to use magic eraser to clean the marks of the hull all the time. Also not sure how many you need my trailer had 32 rollers. If you search around there are places that sell blemish poly rollers for half the price sometimes.

If you want to get the marks off you may want to try a tennis ball like they use on hard floors in department stores.

If you do not get new rollers just wax the hull. My former boat had rollers like that and I just kept a good layer of wax on it and the marks would wipe right off.

I have the same trailer same age same issue.

For others: these are wobble rollers designed with a loose fit so they always roll.

The surface of the black rollers has deteriorated but they will not crack and do not need replacing, except for the cosmetic issue.

It is very hard to find the size roller that will fit. I gave up.

But if you do, you probably only need to replace the 2, maybe 4, front rollers. My bottom is painted but even if it wasn't, who cares if there are marks on the bottom? The fish?

Magic eraser is a wonderful thing but it is wet sanding so not a good idea for frequent use in one place. So maybe if you haul the boat a couple times a year but not every weekend.

I bet you could spray paint or shellac those front rollers and solve the problem.

I just live with the marks now since this boat is pretty beat and now dedicated to use around hunters, watermen and others who don't care. But it did bother me in the city.

Tell me about the tennis ball trick? If that is all you need we should all keep one aboard!

At stores like Target they always have somebody walking around with a tennis ball on a long pole rubbing black shoe scuff marks off their hard surface floors. The marks come right off with very little effort. Not positive it would work on a boat but shoe soles can't be much different than rubber rollers. I don't know if it's just taking some of the wax off with the scuff but you can't see a mark/wax free area on the floor afterwards.

Cool! I'm going to get my grandma out the home and over to the house to do the hull with her walker Sunday, if it rains and I can't fish.
