Re: Black max help

It is a lot of help to know what model motor you are having a problem with.

The fact that the motor runs acceptably welllll once started seems to rule out a problem with the tank lines and pump, leaving the fuel enrichener/choke as not adding additional fuel for cold starts.

Follow the fuel line from the fuel pump towards the carbs, it T's off and a second line goes to the fuel enrichener valve. Hold your finger on that valve while a helper turns the key ON then pushes the key forward into the ignition switch to activate the enrichener. Do you hear and feel the solenoid 'click'?

If not, then get a test light and check the wire to it to see if it is energized when the key is pushed in.

If it is clicking ON, the remove one of the lines from the enrichener to the intake, hold the key IN and pump the primer bulb. Does fuel come out of the enrichener now?

Re: Black max help

If the tank has a sending unit that can be removed so you can get a hose into the tank so siphon it out,

then, jack and block the boat on the trailer such that the corner of the tank nearest the sending unit is at least an inch lower than the rest of the tank, tilted.

Let it sit still a few hours or over night to any and all water to settle into the lowest corner.

Hopefully the tank isn't full, is removing the sender on a tilted tank could spill fuel, and even if it is not that full, fumes will be!!!!!!

CAUTION, fumes are more dangerous than liquid, NO sparks, etc.

Use a 3/8 hose, cut a small notch across the end os the hose so that it cannot suck itself and seal against the bottom of the tank. If you have about a 9/16 nut laying around, thread it onto the hose, keep it very near the end to weight it down, it helps keep the end in position at the bottom of your tank.

Thread the hose intoo the tank thru the sender access hole, siphon the water out from under the fuel, into a suitable container, watch, stop once you start pulling out good fuel.

Change filters, flush lines, drain carbs one at a time, squeeze primer while carb drain plug is out to flush any water out.

That one should be in the FAQ's
