I was talking with a marine tech about my upper gear box for my volvo 280 outdrives and we were discussing the orings.
He said that before I put everything back together, I should put black silicone on every oring.

I haven't read about this anywhere and was wondering if anyone had any opinions about this.

Thanks,
Scott

New orings don't require any sealer, but a thin layer of Permatex aviation formAgasket is used to prevent corrosion. Sillycone has no buisness on a drive anyplace, any outdrive.

I assuming that I would apply this where there is metal to metal contact, is this correct? Not on the orings.

Thanks for the quick reply.
