I have a 1998 225 EFI Mercury Outboard, It sat for about 4 months, I started it the other day with ear muf on and ran it for about 1/2 hour and notice it had black sludge coming out of the exhaust. What can it be? (the lower unit oil look ok) and it ran good BUT!

Re: Black Sludge

That's likely exaust residue and is normal. Especially after long periods running at idle. No worries.

Re: Black Sludge

If your motor was fogged for lay-up, then it produces that black oily stuff out of exhaust when you start it up....no problem.
