I have a 1954 7.5 hp motor. When I first got it i put new water pump and impeller, new gaskets. I put it in bucket to start it up. Gas mix is 24:1 pull the string to start. starts easy so easy its awesome. Idle was not running right. So i put it up for about 2 weeks. Take it out again put it in a bucket start it up to adjust high and low speed idle. then i noticed black smoke then it turned the water in the bucket black really fast. After few minutes the smoke turned slighty grey then the nomal color for 2 stroke engines. What could have made it smoke black like that and all the oil makeing the water black. thank you for your help

Re: black smoke?

Excess carbon deposits and unburned fuel from sitting and only being run a short time. Not to worry...Take it out and run it on the lake if you can. This will get rid of those deposits and probably make it idle better, too...You might want to do this also....

Decarb
