...So... went for a walk with my wife today... We run across a black walnut tree. a bunch of the nuts had fallen on to the ground.

My wife sees them and says "Humph..what's that?" I say "There's a walnut in there...they look like that before they pull the nut out.."

She says "Nuh-uh".

I say "Uh-huh".

Well... I had to prove it... now I've got black walnut stains on my hands.

Help! ...How do I get this off?!?!

Thanks! :)

I don't know if it will work or not but try some of the Orange hand cleaner stuff. That stuff clean off the baddest stain you can get from the shop so you might try it on black walnut. It will get rid of stains on your clothing too.

Well, the two answers I found after google it says to use gasoline and a rag or straight clorox bleach and a rag. Obviously, both of those are irritants, so be careful and don't inhale....good thing you didn't us your teeth. :D

I have black walnuts. I have found nothing acceptable to get the stains off completely. The closest I have found is old fashioned Boraxo powdered soap, but it does not remove them completely. Time will do that.

Shaving cream and a stiff brush since there are release agents in shaving cream......... cooking oil and a stiff brush will do it to. I had a walnut stained hand once...... it was pretty nice...... but the police took it away from me and said it was evidence!!!

Re: Black Walnut Stains

Thanks, everyone.

Yeah, I've tried every powder, soap, and liquid we've got. I think I'm just going to have this brownish/yellow stain on my hand for a few days...

It's lighter, so it's not horrible ... just makes me laugh whenever I look at it.

The worst part is around my fingernails... I think that's just going to have to grow out. Until then, people will just have to think I'm disgusting and never wash my hands. :)

Ever got spray-foam insulation on your hands? Now that stuff is the WORST. It doesn't come off and leaves residue on your hands so you can't grip anything.

You might try GoJo. I've used it to remove dried deck stain from the painted side of the house.

I've used some hand cleaner with pumice that seems to work really well on walnut stains. I believe GoJo makes some, but I'm sure there are others.

I gathered walnuts from my trees a few years ago. I used gas, laquer thinner, acetone, dish detergent, tide detergent, and then my hands were so dry I had to use hand lotion. Then the stuff came off with the lotion,,,,,,go figure? Probably due to all the different cleaners that I tried. I wear gloves and boots now when I harvest them.
