I would like to bleed any air in my hydraulic steering, can it be done by one person?
I read this somewhere but I'm not sure I have it right. Does anyone know if this will work?

Join the bleeder valves on the cylinder together with a hose

open the bleeder valve on each end of the cylinder.

Attach your fluid bottle and filler tube to the helm as normal and then turn the wheel back and forth several times.

I'm thinking that any air will travel though the system and back out the fill bottle.

Any ideas??? ;)

Mike

What brand system? Teleflex, Hynautic (which one?), U-Flex, Hy-Drive, IMCO, Latham, etc?

Sorry Dhandley, I had a brain freez.

Teleflex, SeaStar system, single cylinder, Helm is also hooked up to a Simrad AP12 autopilot if that will make any difference. SeaStar is very helpful but recommends the two people, bleed one side of the cylinder at a time method.

Thaks for your interest.

Mike

All you gotta do is get close with that system. It'll almost bleed itself after that. Good choice on systems!

Good luck!

Thanks for the vote of confidence but I didn’t have anything to do with the choice of hydraulics.
19 year old boat that I bought late last fall and with the help of the forum have been doing some "deferred maintenance" off and on all winter.

Just got the props back from the shop…Now if I can just get it in the water. ;)
