Block drain question

Looking to make draining my block for winterization easier in the future.
My '94 5.0 currently has brass plugs inside brass reducers in the sides of the block.
I'm considering removing both the plugs and reducers and replacing them with brass petcocks. Is there any reason not to make this modification?

Will you be able to probe the petcock opening into the block to make sure there open?

I changed mine out to the blue plugs currently used by Merc. All parts a easy enough to get and work very well. Even picked up a bag of 25 O-rings for the plugs which was cheap. the brass hardware is the most expensive. See items 4, 5 and 6. Items 5 and 6 come in one package

Bt doc, yes, I had thought of that and would be sure that I could.

AllDodge, I have considered that but thought petcocks would be an easy, no tool, no parts to drop ssolution. I hate digging dropped parts out of the bilge.

Do it right or you'll be replacing the engine block... I'd prefer to use a socket a couple of times to replacing an engine... But it's your engine, your choice....
