If an engine block was cracked. How long would it take for water to show up in the oil?

I am wondering cause my bro in law didnt winterize his boat and took it out last weekend. He ran it for about 2-3 hrs and we checked the oil. There was no sign of water in it.

Just wondering if he got lucky.
