I have a 88' 4.3l v6 GM that the owner before me let freeze and the block is cracked. Everything else is in good order as far as i can tell. I want to change the block out, I have read alot of the posts on here and talked to people " in the know" and i am still kinda stumped. In a post on here i read that any block 88-92 would work. I talked to a guy at a local shop and he said that because of the mec fuel pump that only an 85 or 86 model would work. Any help, as to what block I need would be great. Thanks, Troy

Re: Block swap, 4.3l v6 GM

Ayuh,....

If it's a 1988,....

Any long block newer than 1987 will bolt in, even if you have to convert to an Electric Fuel Pump....

If it's a 1988,...
The 1985,+ 1986 will Not even bolt in, as they are 2 piece rear main seal blocks, which are different than the 1 piece rear main seal blocks used starting in 1987...

If your talking about swapping Only the Block,....
A 1987, to 1992 will work,....
