Well, I had another thread going here....
http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?p=1584508#post1584508
but narrowedi it down to what I am almost positive is an engine problem so I thought I would post here instead....

I have a 1991 Evinrude 40hp that functioned fine before swapping out the powerhead (Well, except for the fact that it only had 60 psi on the top cylinder) I tried to get it running and it cranked once and didn't have any power. Turned out to be the "main" fuse in the junction box of the motor. I replaced the fuse and never got to the part about cranking it before it popped the fuse again. I've noticed that when I choke it (push in the key) that the voltage drops quite a bit but the battery has enough juice to crnak the motor over fine. Somewhere I have a wiring issue I am pretty sure. Any ideas? Is it possible the choke solenoid is the problem? All the electronics and stuff got swapped over from the old powerhead. I am just about at the end of my rope. I have checked as many connections as I can get to, checked the batteries, used an ohmmeter and checked the grounds....What else?

Re: Blowing Fuses....

The 20 amp fuse should be able to handle the primer solenoid OK unless the solenoid is bad; disconnect the black ground wire from the primer solenoid and see if you can start the motor without it.

With the solenoid disconnected, if the fuse blows when you push the key in, you probably have a bad ignition switch.

Well, Just so ya'll know. (I hate it if I search thread and the person never revleals the problem) I found what the issue was. Bad connection at the choke solenoid. A flake of paint got in between the wires and must have been severely limiting continuity. Good to go now! Thanks for all the help.
