blown fuse on trim pump

Hi All,

1987 Mach 1 Eclipse, Mercruiser Alpha 1 drive.

I keep blowing an inline 30amp fuse on the tilt pump. I can pull the kids on ski's for hours making frequent trim adjustments with no problems. As I approach the ramp and raise the engine for trailering, the fuse blows. The controls have 1 switch for bow up/down, and a second switch for trailering.

Any thoughts on where to start looking to find the problem?

Thanks, Todd

If anything there might be a 90A block inline with the red lead ,the one in the black boot should be less than 30A.your only running
18Ga wire from the pump to the helm

:D :D :D That fuse is power for the control buttons only.

My (educated :D) guess would be that you have a worn section of wire in the harness inside the control handle. I would venture to say that when you are trimming for the trailer, the handle is back in the 'idle' position, and when you are trimming while pulling the kids around, the throttle is further down. I would also venture to postulate that the bared wire in the control is the blue/white one.... ;)

Another slim possability is the switches in you handle. Not knowing which throttle handle you have, there could be a possibility that the trailer button is causing a short or something else.

Just my un-educated guess

You do yourself a mis-justice... I've seen your posts... I'm impressed. ;)

It could be a button, but if that was the case it would be taking the fuse out every time, not just when the throttle is back a bit further...

With a friend pressing switches, put your fingers on fuses and leads by trim "noids" and motor. One will get warm more so than others. Believe me!!!!! Also, when was last time you replaced trim fluid?????
