Ok, my motor wouldn't start...2005 4.3 Mercruiser. The starter sounded like it hit a wall. Pulled the oil drain hose out and let some drain....Looked like milk, even though oil on the dip stick looked fine. Started taking the plugs out and the port side was fine, the first one on the starboard side blew out a bunch of water. The next two were wet as well. That's head gasket right?

Howdy,

How long has it been since you ran the engine,

Are you in a part of the country that experiences freezing weather?

Did you winterize the engine?

Do you operate mostly in salt water?

When did you last remove the risers and inspect the riser gaskets and sealing surfaces?

Regards,

Could be. Or freeze damage. Or manifold or riser issue. Or missing flapper issue. 4.3s not known for head gasket problems.

Re: Blown Head Gasket?

I just bought the boat. It had used oil in it without water damage. Well, I used the "sucking pump" and got about 4 quarts out of it and all the oil looked fine....I didn't know the boat had a drain hose until I found it today. The motor ran fine when I was looking it over in the guys driveway. I changed the impeller, gear oil, fuel, and fuel and oil filters. Adjusted the shift cable cause after all that it wouldn't shift into reverse. Once everything was fine in my driveway, I took it out on Wednesday. Everything was fine, no overheating..nothing. So I went to take the family out today, backed her into the water and it wouldn't turn over. Like it was locked up. That's when I found what I found. I live in South Ga, the boat came from Jacksonville fl....not sure if it's cold enough here to freeze out a block. So, if it's the block, why would the water be in the top of the cylinders only on one side? Why would it crank multiple times and run before this? Why isn't there any milky oil on the dip stick? God I hope it's not the block.
