blown motor?

motor died- 5.7 merc- went to do a compression check and found water spraying out #2 cylinder when turning motor over. this happened after 1/2 hour run and engine stopped. wouldnt restart. bad exhaust manifold? gasket? would this ruin the motor? any ideas?

Could be a bad manifold or head gasket. Best thing I've found is to pull all the plugs, ground the ignition and turn the motor over to blow out all the water. Then put a couple of teaspoons of oil in each plug hole and turn it over again. Was this salt or fresh water? Only way to know for sure is to do a compression check on all the holes. If you did not break a piston or rod from the hydro-lock the motor will probably live, just need to figure out where the water came from and pickle it as soon as possible.

Wouldn't condemn the motor.... yet. Check your manifolds.

Pickle the motor ASAP!Check the exshaust manifolds later.
