I havent fished for blue fin but for albacore you troll at 7 to 7 1/2 mph. Drag your feather or plug back far enough for it to run just under the surface breaking ocasionly. Good luck. It's a blast.

Re: blue fin tuna

A squid rig trolled at a hundred fifty feet behind the boat at a speed so it is just below the surface, but will break the surface every so often will get you nice foot balls. Trolling live bluefish can get you a 600 pounder.
However!!!!
Bluefin tuna is one of the most endangered fish on the planet and commercial fishermen are totally irresponsible in harvesting this fish.Scientists warn that we may no longer have bluefin tuna in another 10 years. So my suggestion is to give this great sport fish a break so our children will be able to enjoy them.

It depends largely on where you're fishing for them. We run and gun 'em up here in cape cod bay and out at stellwagen. There's no bigger rush than hooking up on a popper, or the fly rod, throwing "into the meat" as we say, on a school of 100 lb+ class tuna breaking on the surface. Lots of guys get them here on the troll. My attention span is way too short for trolling, though.
