Re: board size?

How does the current board feel? I'd see if you could have a go on the larger and then make your mind up. The size charts are just a guide. Some people like smaller boards than the charts would suggest and some like larger boards. I use a 137 and weigh 160 which is correct according to the chart. Personnaly I wouldn't like anything smaller.

Re: board size?

Individual preference.
I ride a 134 Hyperlite & I'm 5'11" @ 170 lbs. My buddy rode the same board Saturday & is 6'2" @ 225 lbs, and loved it. It is a little small for him, but, he did fine with it. My opinion is that I like the smaller board because it is easier to get her around on jumps and stuff like that. I would stick with a 142 if that size worked good for you...
Just my $.02 though...

Re: board size?

Your skill level also plays a part in deciding which board size is best. I had a larger guy that was new to boarding, and struggled a lot on a smaller board. As soon as he tried my 142, he just about instantly progressed.

If you struggle at all with stability or getting out of the water, you may want to step to a larger board. But if you're already getting up and jumping wakes no problem, you're probably good with what you have. But yea, 147 is pretty big. You might consider something in-between too.

Re: board size?

OK, so what should I start my 15 year old on? He is 6'2" and about 208-210, about zero body fat, lol. Also has really big feet, size 15 right now. We have found boards on Overtons that can handle the feet, but what size board should he start with?

Thanks

Re: board size?

Have you considered just adding a fin to each of his feet and doing skiing instead....lol. Seriously something around 140+ would be a good start. I'm 6" and around 180lbs, I also have a friend approx same height but heavier than your lad and he uses a 140 hyperlite motive. I had a Jobe 141 that I used once to stand up on, got a hyperlite murray 138 off a mate so went straight to that for about 6 rides. Now I have just bought a blemish 2010 Ronix ibex 139 which I love. First time out it just does everything you need and really fills with confidence. I can't quite do wake to wakes yet but surface tricks including the odd 360 have been pulled off purely due to how nicely it slides even for a complete 37 year old beginner (< ten sessions). My point is that once you can get up I think you can ride pretty much anything around the right size band so do try and get something that he won't think is too basic too quickly as well.
Last week my mate bought a ronix covenant, looks just like a snowboard completely flat with no fins but awesome fun to practise on. Don't buy one but check it out for giggles.
