Hellow again,

As you probably know from earlier threads I am fixing an old 16 foot boat. I would like to find a way to get in and out of the boat easier when stopping for a swim. In the past we have used one of those fold up ladders that hooks over the side of the boat. This is very awkward, especially since the boat only has a 6 foot beam and tips quite a bit when someone as large as me tries to climb aboard. Does anyone have experience with the small transom ladders for boats with outboards? It seems like it would still be awkward climbing over the splashwell. Any other ideas? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
RCS

Re: Boarding with narrow transom

I have a transom boarding ladder on my OB boat and it works great, particularly for kids getting back in. Boat has enough room on sides of splashwell to get in and out, though. Even a blubber**** like me can get in OK. My rule is "motor turned off!" when boarding at transom.

We always use the outboard it self to get back in the boat, Now I have a ladder, but I still use the motor as well.

Craig
