Hi,
Had someone brake into our rv yard awhile back, stoled a rv, we know that anything can get stolen by the bad guys, my question is I want to try to stop that and not spend a fortune on a alarm and have to hardwire the system, does anyone own any of the portable systems wirless alarms? some you have adjustable shock sensors and perimiter beams I would have to agree with my neighbor on that Seems like they might work, I called lojack and they do not offer a system for boats there a a few with gps that seem good quality there are a few offered on the net.
Thanks

Re: Boat alarms??

I have a little portable alarm that I use when we go camping but it makes noise only. Works good for us but then we are camped about 40 feet away in a tent. Alarm was low cost and uses a motion sensor with a remote to arm and disarm it. Runs on 4 AA batteries in the alarm and a small 12 volt battery in the remote like used in car remotes. If the alarm goes off will run for about 3 to 5 minutes and then reset.

The cheapest way to keep the boat on a trailer from being stolen is to remove a wheel or two. If you want to keep a boat at a dock from being stolen, you can chain and padlock it to the dock.

If you want to keep the contents of a boat safe, take them home(best), or lock them in a locker(not nearly so good).

Around here they steal electronics and kickers, mostly. Stuff they can fence easily.

Re: Boat alarms??

Look around they make GPS trackers for everything nowadays.

It's like low jack but all you do is go online and see where your stuff is.

(lowjack only works with the cops receiver)

Same here. They just busted a "gang" here that consisted of a father and his two sons (all adults). One of the boys admitted that they'd been doing this for a living for several years!!

They were real entreprenuers as they covered about a 200 sq mile area along the coast. They were stealing from boats on trailers, in the water and even those up on lifts!

For the on the water thefts they were using a 20 some foot twin vee with twin Honda 4 strks (quiet) and just idling up to the docks or lifts... they actually had a crude a-frame with a boom and winch on it that they could collapse down onto the deck.

They were selling some of the stuff on Ebay with their "location" just listed as "USA". and the rest they were selling to a "fence" in New Orleans who has also been arrested.

They were "caught" by a victim who was looking to replace something that was stolen off of his boat.

the cops are estimating that they made off with well over 2 Million worth of marine equipment and engines.

Back to the question.... they sell a alarm system for motorcycles that detects movement of the bike. It's very small and easy to conceal.

However if you're lot is "remote" likely they'll find it before anyone comes along to hear it.

Due to the massive foreclosure rate here in South Florida there are a LOT of abandoned houses. The bad guys break in and take the appliances. Now our local sheriff's office is setting up "bait" houses with inexpensive GPS units installed in them. So far a few arrests made - so I guess the system does work. The only problem with that is your suff has to be stolen first.
I think Chris 1956 idea is the best one - out of sight, out of mind. Take it home. Even though I keep my boat moored directly behind my house I'll still remove what I can each and every time. Call me paranoid but I've worked too hard to give it away.

Oh yeah a gps tracker won't do any good to keep them from stealing items off your boat.

I just meant if they steal your boat.
