2004 Hurricane SD187. Currently has a boss deck with 4 boss speakers. They are a year old. Deck puts out 20 watts RMS and 60 w peak. Speakers are 2-way and are rated at 90 watts RMS and 180 w peak.

I want better sound quality out of the boat and plan on getting a new deck, 4 speakers then maybe adding an amp and a sub. (Really doubting the sub will happen due to space constraints.

For a deck I'm looking at a Kenwood or JVC, each puts on 22 w RMS and 50 w peak. For speakers I'm looking at Kicker KM654cw (can't afford the JL 650 or Polk 651).

What should I replace first? Deck or speakers? Need to space them out for financial reasons, as I also plan to do all my maintenance next month which will east at the checkbook.

I would just put in the amplifiers and you may find everything else acceptable.

Be careful with a sub-woofer as it will draw a lot of power from the battery.

If you don't think that you'll ever really add a sub, I would first upgrade your speakers. I only say this because boss speakers are known for bad quality. Keep the deck and make your next purchase a 4 channel amp. I think you'll be satisfied with that, an amp will bring those speakers to life like no deck ever will.
