I have a 1984 Black Max 150 HP. have had boat for quite a few years has run great then started this bogging down thing. Did some trouble shooting found a broken reed valve replaced it. Always had a little back carb spit at startup reed valve seems to have fixed that. Motor starts real good, ideals good but when you put it in the water and throttle up motor would still bog down. Would have wifie go to front of boat if you get lucky get enough RPM's up the boat would get out of hole and run at top speed. Did more research things was pointing to the stator so i said what the hay bought new stator and while i was in that far went ahead and replaced switch plate too. Took boat back out to lake no fix still bogs down. Need some pointers on what to do next? what gets me the most is when you get lucky and get it on plan runs great can go 65 MPH shoot rooster tail all you want. Put boat back down in water good luck on getting it back up. Need Viagra or something?

Have a 1992 200 hp efi Mercury outboard that stalls when slamming to w.o.t. Fuel line to tank and electric fuel pump have been replaced. Still stalls when fast slam to w.o.t.

When it bogs down, check the spark then? Also get a squirt bottle with some pre mixed fuel in it. Squirt that in carbs to see if it picks up. Also make try running a separate temporary fuel tank to rule out the fuel system.

So what else have you done for the troubleshooting.

compression check?
spark check?
Ignition timing @ idle and WOT check?
Cleaned carbs?
Rebuilt fuel pump?

When the engine bogs down does squeezing the primer bulb bring it back to life?
How does the primer bulb feel when engine bogs down, fuel of fuel / collapsed?
Checked for air bubbles in fuel?

Compression check was good. All plugs have spark. Have not checked timing idles real good. Do not notice any kind of miss fire but check. Was going to replace fuel lines this weekend. At times if you have full throttle and bogging down you can smell un-burn fuel, that's why I went for stator thinking low end band was out . Thanks for the help. I will check all suggestions again just in case I missed something will keep you updated.

Clean carbs, replace carb->manifold gaskets, replace fuel filter/lines/clamps. Fuel pump kit if you haven't done it. Also you need to do a link and sync on the carbs if you want to get out of the water.
