I have a 1988 bayliner capri 2250. The capacity plate is gone. During a coast gaurd saftey check, the officer told me that I must have a capactiy plate on the boat. In pa we can apply for a new capacity plate and I have done so. I am going to the jersey shore this weekend and I am concerned if I get pulled over. My question is because my boat is over 20' do I still have to have the capacity plate on board?? Can anyone guide me to a site that will at least give me capacity information??? Thanks for the help.

Re: Boat capacity plate questions

I am getting ready for a trip to Lake Michigan. I have been reading a lot on the USCG web site.
I remember seeing on the site, that any vessel UNDER 20' must have a plate. Any vessel OVER 20' is not required. That was on their web site.

I'd look it up, print it out, and put it in a baggie for your next outing. I would not get smart with them though. You would be surprised what they can find if their mad.

Re: Boat capacity plate questions

Thats sounds like good advise. I always like to air on the side of caution with issues like this. I will check out the USCG site for more information. Thanks.

Re: Boat capacity plate questions

I had the an inspection just this weekend also and just like you could not find a capacity plate anywhere on my 20' Chaparral, The oficer asked what year is this boat? i say "it's a 1990" "Hmmm" says the officer, then spouted something about requirement of a 20 footer and went ahead and put the inspection sticker on the lower port side windshield.
