Hey everyone, I am wanting to wax my boat (1989 Baja Islander 190) and was just wondering what kind should I use? Is there a difference in car wax/compound because I have a ton of that stuff. If not its no big deal its just another bottle I can add too my shelf. Thanks for any suggestions or ideas.

Everyone has their favorite.Boat wax and auto wax are not that different. All depends on the condition of your gelcoat. If it is chalky you probably should use a marine polish/polishing compound followed up by quality wax.If your gelcoat looks good then just use what you already have.Charlie

I disagree. Boat wax is for gelcoat, automotive wax is for paint/clearcoat. Clear coat and gel coat are not at all similar at all. Use a marine compound or wax on a boat. I like the 3m product line personally. Yes it will be much more expensive than automotive wax.

There's other threads on here you can look at too. This is certainly one of those "ask 10 people, get 11 opinions" questions.

I'm a fan of Collinite. Google search and buy directly from them.

In a pinch, I will also use synthetic (not carnuba) car waxes. Mcquiars NXT or Turtle Wax Ice.
