My boat is currently in a Uncovered Storage facility for the time being.

Im out of town for a couple of weeks and my wife has told me it has been raining for the Last Couple of days in Arizona.

Does a boat cover protect the boat from getting water inside or does the water come through. I'm concerned because I cannot check if the floor is gettng wet.

last couple cover's i've gotten both repelled water. they also allow moisture to escape. breathable covers. while these covers tend to be pricy. i think they're worth the extra bucks. i don't water in my boat either.
i just went out a couple days ago and had a look in my boat. been sitting for almost 5 months now, :(. looked bone dry inside and we've had much snow and melting snow. rains before the snow too.
so yes, a good cover will repel water. imho.

Ok the cover that I have on it now is in Excellant conditon when I bought the Boat. I wish I did an water test on the cover before the Rains came. On good thing in AZ we do not see much rain. Its the Sun that will kill the Upholstery if not taken Care of.

I read that you can re water proof a cover on another forum.

Thanks for the comments.

All of the more quality built covers are water replent if not water proof. They will loose that characteristic over time and have to treated. I keep my boat in a shop building and also have the mooring covers on it to keep out dust and anything else. That way all I have to do in the spring is take it to the lake and I'm ready to go.

All of the many even cheapest covers I have been through have kept water out of the boat.

They get wet and saturated in the process and will wick some water through at points where they are supported.

Most were quite water repellent initially then less so as they age. An occasional spray down with silicone waterproofing spray (Walmart +- $5 a can) will add some resiliency for a while.

But being the cheapo covers they will disintegrate and start tearing after as little as a year or two in hot sunny climates.

The most recent cover is the well under $100 5 year model at walmart and it needs replacement after a little over 2 years. I had hoped I could return it to the store but they say I need to mail it to Texas.

To use a cover it is best when supported so as it stays convex, and not allowed to puddle water. That is best done with tight bungee cords at all tie down points, and some sort of support underneath keeping it humped up.

Like others have said, depends on the quality of the cover and if it is fitted to allow proper run-off. I bought a custom cover here on I-Boats that has worked great. I have a support pole just aft of the windscreen and just a bit higher than the windscreen (makes like a teepee) to prevent pooling. Also, I bought a 50.00 tarp from Home Depot to protect my 350.00 cover covering my boat just as an added precaution. We have had some hard rains here lately and the boat has been kept bone dry. Good luck.

The Cover I have Fits snug as a Bug in a Rug. We do not get nearly as much Rain as other Parts of the Country. I understand you all deal with much more weather than I do. I just bought the boat and trying to keep it in Prestine condition. Also I have a Fear of Floor Rot. Wait until I tell my Family they have to towel off before entering the Boat.
