boat cover that works

Any recommendations for a boat cover (brand or material) that will actual repel the rain? I bought one last summer that was supposed to be water proof (isn't) and is now so brittle, to look at it will tear it. Unfortunately, I have to store my boat outdoors. It's a 15' bow runner. Thanks.

Are you looking for a tarp like cover or a semi custom fit type.

I would prefer a semi-custom cover. My boat is an older 15' tri-hull, open bow w/ an outboard. I see plenty of manufacturers (here on iboats), I just don't want to buy another disposable cover (that isn't even waterproof) if I can avoid it. The old cover is set up with a post in the middle with straps to each corner to avoid any low spots where water could accumulate. I now have a brown tarp over the top of the cover to repel the water. It looks so bad I feel like apologizing to the neighbors.

I also store my boat outside.......can barely fit a car in the garage let alone a boat.

Those Trihulls are always difficult to get a nice fit with the cover......or at least I found that with mine. I never could really justify spending the money on custom one.

I ended up buying a Stearns Semi-custom trailerable cove made from their Hurricane 3000 fabric. I have had absolutely no issues with it. It still looks great, feels great, and most importantly repels water AND Stains.

From Stearns:
Tough 300D polyester Hurricane™ fabric won't shrink, won't stretch,
and is much stronger than ordinary cotton canvas
Resistant to mildew and U.V. damage
Unique fabric coating technology resists dirt and stains while providing
the ultimate in water resistance and repellency
4 year warranty on HURRICANETM Polyester Canvas
Adjustable elastic cord sewn into entire bottom hem gives a tight and custom fit Reinforced at major stress points on the stern, windshield and bow
Full-cut to allow extra room for accessories such as bow rails, running lights, etc.
Heres a pic with my boat covered with it.
Thanks for the referrals. I think I'll give the Stearns Hurricane a try. I like the 4 year warranty. I would imagine if their cover can handle a Wisconsin winter, a California winter should be no problem. Thanks again.

Any cover, water proof, water resistant, or whatever they claim, can be waterproofed with tent waterproofing. I used to use a product called Camp Dry on my tents. I make my own covers using heavy vinyl so Camp Dry is used to seal and protect the seams.
