Boat cover

When I purchased my new-to-me boat a few years ago it came with a very basic cover. As I recall it either straps under the boat, or down to the trailer. I only used it to get the boat home and since then I've never needed the cover because we store it in our garage and only take it out on nice summer days.

However, in early June we'll be towing the boat four hours north for a three day houseboat fishing trip (apparently we tie the boat up to the houseboat and use it for excursions; my BIL is organizing everything). I'd feel a lot better if I had a decent cover on the boat for the ride up, and then to protect the boat from dew, rain, etc. while towing it behind the houseboat. I don't want to install snaps on our boat and spend the money to have custom vinyl created for it. Are there any good, reasonably priced covers that would work for me in this circumstance? After this trip I doubt the cover would see much more use. Thanks.

Re: Boat cover

Don't think I'd worry much about a cover. I never tow with cover on, only when parked. And good trailerable covers aren't cheap, I'd bet close to $200 for one worthy of trailering. Both my boats have covers which aren't custom but are very good covers and they just never seem to fit right to trailer.

Re: Boat cover

If I'm gonna be out a few days I take my cover with me, I just don't tow with it. Seems like unless their custom they don't fit well enough to tow. I don't want to take the chance anyway and have a shredded $200 cover.

So if you're towing and it's raining, you're ok with that? I'm not trying to be sarcastic, just trying to "prepare for the worst and hope for the best."

Re: Boat cover

No offense taken. I might feel different if I had a different boat. I have no carpet or pour in foam in my boat and theres really nothing to soak up water. If it rains it just washes the deck and runs out the bilge. However depending on the year and model of your boat it may be easy to get a custom cover that will trailer well. I'm just saying that most universal fit covers (even the expensive ones) don't seem to fit well enough to trailer, even though they say you can.

Edit: I just noticed your boat in your sig. Maybe someone with a similar boat will chime in on the fit of the universal covers.
