How well do boats with carpet survive stored outside with a fabric boat cover over them? Does the cover trap humidity and the carpet then molds and rots?
I want a bowrider like 17 ft or 18 ft and some of them . come with a carpet. I can not store it in my garage.
should I only get a boat with NO CARPET?

Re: Boat covers and boat carpet, outside

Boat carpet is made of polypropolene, and is rot proof. The sun could damage it, however, it hardly ever does.

Some boat covers are cotton or some other natural fabric. These can rot, as will nylon, to a certain degree. The newer boat covers are synthetic (Dacron or something), and won't rot. I would think your plan is fine.

BTW - some boats need carpet! (that ought to get 'em up and flaming)

The carpet will hold up for a very long time if by hold up you mean continues to exist. It will not look new much beyond a season or two and will continue to get uglier and uglier. Personally, I would never buy a boat that had carpet glued in place. There are too many out there with nice fiberglass decks and snap-in carpet. Definitely the way to go in my opinion.
